Current Information:Kingsland Road Born-Shoreditch Berks Cemetery Extension, Belgium Originally part of 6th Division, 17 Brigade, which included 1st Royal Fusiliers, were transferred to 24th Division in October, 1915. The Battalion Diaries for 1st Royal Fusiliers between January and June, 1916 are missing, making it difficult to discover any details of their service during that period. At this stage all that can be said is that in June 1916, 6th Division were holding the line along the Messines Ridge in Belgium and that on 17th June, 1916, five London men among their ranks, including Edward Salmon, were killed in action, on a day when 3rd Rifle Brigade, also of 17 Brigade, were facing gas attacks in their trenches. |
